3 Factors That Determine The Cost of Plastic Injection Molding
The 3 Determining Factors of Plastic Injection Molding Costs
What do you need to know about the cost of plastic injection molding?
Material
Plastic is generally low cost and preferable raw material by manufacturers and their clients. Every material has its own properties that will make it suitable for the manufacturing of a certain part. The availability, additives and value of the materials used will impact the manufacturing costs.
Mold / Tool
The mold design and cavitation determines is a major factor in determining part price. The more complex the part the more expensive the mold will be. The more cavities in a mold, the more parts per cycle can be produced, and therefore, your part price will decrease as the number of the cavities increase, but the price of your tool will increase.
Cycle Time
The cycle time is the total time used to complete the plastic injection process. It is the longest time of the production process and it determines when the next molding cycle will begin once the part has cooled and can be ejected.
