How to Choose the Right Sustainable Packaging for Your Product
Matching your packaging with your product is a critical step in getting it to consumers. Sustainable packaging can not only satisfy increasing popular demand for environmentally friendly products and their packaging, it can also offer savings of materials and resources.
Sustainable Materials
For materials to be considered sustainable, they are generally easily recycled/biodegradable, made from renewable materials, or both. Naturally, packaging materials must also be compatible with their contents and function as required.
Heat Tolerance
Some biopolymers, such as PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate), can perform well when heated, making them great choices for heatable food packaging.
UV Exposure
PHA and a few other biopolymers are more tolerant of UV exposure if that is a requirement of your packaging.
Food Safe
Many biopolymers, including PHA and PLA (polylactic acid), can be excellent, safe choices for contact with food or cosmetics.
Appearance
From crystal-clear PHA formulations to opaque, naturally-colored hemp-based bioplastics, dyed cellulose and others, there's sure to be a sustainable material that can give your packaging the look you want.
Easy to Recycle
Bioplastics aren't the only route to sustainability. Using recycled source material and/or making your packaging easy to recycle are additional ways to make it more environmentally friendly.
Sustainable Materials
Plastic injection molding is inherently low-waste, since only the amount of plastic needed for each piece is blown into the mold. Careful design and material selection can result in minimal finishing work so that resources and labor are also reduced. Lightweight plastics reduce shipping weight, further reducing the environmental impact of your products. In addition, our design-to-fulfillment, one-stop facility and other building and production systems make us a more sustainable manufacturer.
